Caden kissing a horseBlue Allen Training Stables was started in Alamosa in 2001 by Blue Allen with his wife Jeannie. Caden Blue Allen, born in 2008, and already captivated by horses and cows, is the official greeter to the many clients who visit the ranch.

Since opening his own training facility, Blue has gone from riding colts (as he says, "8 new horses every 30 days") to winning coveted titles and establishing long-term relationships with clients and their horses. His client list and his reputation extend throughout the Western United States and overseas to New Zealand where he travels annually to give reined cow horse clinics. Blue Allen and his familyAnd while he's proud of the titles and his collection of buckles, he's more proud that his peers – other reined cow horse trainers who have preceded him – recognize his accomplishments not just on horseback, but also in his successful efforts with non pro, novice and youth clients.

It's a friendly place where any day of the week, you're likely to find a few clients working in the arena as well as others – neighbors, friends, grandparents, trainers and assorted others – dropping by for a visit.

The Allens also enjoy being part of the Alamosa ranching community. It's not unusual for them to head to a neighbors for a day of branding or to help move cattle to summer pasture. It gives them and the horses a break from the intensity of training.

It's not just about training horse and riders. It's a lifestyle that still exists in some corners of the country and is treasured by folks like Blue and Jeannie Allen.
